Living longer has been one of the most significant advances in recent decades, alongside the Internet and other technological advances that have long been a part of our daily life. We've seen how the COVID-19 pandemic has altered the rules, workplaces, and lifestyles of people of all ages. As a result, digitalization has permeated every area of our lives. Work, banking, and shopping are all dominated by digital technology, as are social contact, teaching, and learning.
These changes have highlighted the potential provided by technology while also reminding us of the challenges they bring, such as digital exclusion leading to greater dependency, social isolation, and loneliness, particularly among the elderly.
The elderly are particularly vulnerable. Today, they face the greatest risk of further digital isolation. Despite the fact that it may not appear so at first look, studies show that just 8% of adults aged 65 to 74 have more than basic computer abilities. And a sizable proportion of the working 55+ population must adjust to working remotely.
Even while more seniors are going online, many still don't know how to use online services for basic requirements or to stay socially connected.
As a result, the Idein Development Foundation has decided to assist adults over the age of 55 in acquiring critical digital abilities and becoming more resilient in a world dominated by digital technologies.
How are we going to do it?
We will design and conduct training on important digital abilities for gaining access to online services and communication, functioning in an online environment, and establishing work-life balance when working remotely.
We will collaborate with our Dutch technology partner, IJSFontein, to make the trainings more engaging and motivating by incorporating gaming aspects.
